Ring ….. ring … ring …

The phone rang. I picked it up. Oh that’s my cousin, I called her as Uni Santy ( Uni means sister ).

Uni Santy : ” Ka, do you have any appointment to attend for today ? “
Me : ” Nope. Anyway, what’s the matter ? “
Uni Santy : ” You know that before I have invited you to go to Lippo Karawaci Mall for having Korean food right ? So if you don’t have any appointment to go, let’s having Korean food there for late lunch. How is it ? “
Me : ” That’s absolutely ! I’m in! Yeah, let’s go ! “.

So that’s a short story when I was invited to have Korean Buffet. Hahahaha. Finally me and my sister went to Uni Santy’s house then we went together to Lippo Karawaci Mall, Tangerang, Indonesia also with Uni Santy’s children and husband.

After we arrived at Lippo Karawaci Mall, we got a seat in the restaurant which was packed with people. Then we go to the buffet. Anyway, it’s not like the ordinary buffet. So many foods are revealed there but we have to ask for the waiter and waitress to get for us some.

We can choose one from 2 kind of packages. Package A consisted of 4 side dishes and rice, and Package B consisted of 6 side dishes and rice. So you can any kind of side dishes that you want, whether it’s vegetable, twaegim ( fried dish ), bulgogi, etc. There is also kimchi. But since I’m not a big fan of Kimchi, I don’t choose it for my side dish. Better to get another one! hahaha
I chose Package A with 4 side dishes. I don’t think  that I can done the 6 side dishes. This is the pictures of my package.
Package A

I chose 2 kinds of twaegim stuff and bulgogi also tofu and vegetable sapo.

How is it ? Are you starving now ? Hahaha. Honestly I love all of the foods. They served in enough portion and your tummy will be filled properly.

The Bulgogi is lovable. The sauce is great. The beef is smooth and I can chew it easily.

The Vegetable and Tofu Sapo is good too. I am a big fan of tofu and I never decline for food that contain tofu or made of tofu. Moreover, the Japanese tofu is the best. Here, all of the ingredients were blend. 마싰어요 ! :9

The Vegetable Dumpling is totally rock! I love the crispiness and the filling tasted awesome. How can I say this ? Oh I’m speechless, I think I want more of this vegetable dumpling!

The Fried Odaeng or Fried Fish Cake is so chewy and so fishy! Fried it well with bread crumbs and it added more taste on it. Crunch, crunch, chewy, chewy, FABULOUS!

After this, I just felt bloated! Oh God, thank you for giving me a chance to enjoy those craving foods! I’ll come back later I think ;)

TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT WHEN YOU WANT TO SNACK ? IT’S WAFFLE TIME!

I went to Blok M, Jakarta with my sister. Yeah, Blok M is like a center of an activity in Jakarta. You can shop, relax, etc. When we arrived there, we felt hungry. So then we found a snack stall, which named as WAFFLE TIME. On my brain, I imagined that waffle is such as square then it can be given the topping at the top. But it was soooo different, guys!

The waffle was rolled and there’s filling inside. There were many flavours, whether it’s savoury or sweet one. My sister chose sausage as the filling and I chose chicken ragout.

Sausage Waffle -- my sister choice
Then here is my choice, Roll Waffle with Chicken Ragout Filling :
Chicken Ragout Waffle -- my choice

Let me explain you how the taste is! The waffle is still hot, so you can taste the smooth side of the waffle. The waffle taste is dominantly as sweet, but not too much. Standard sweet I think. If it’s mixed with savoury filling, there’s no problem on it.
The sausage, yeah, same taste as the other sausages. It’s a rather big and thick. And the chicken ragout is yummy, but not too much >.< It’s such a recommended one!
And the price is soooo cheap ! For each waffle, you just need to pay IDR 4,000 . Cheap right ?!
Yeah, I can get more energy to walk out before we have another lunch. Try it Frosters !

Magnum Cafe – Too Crowd To Enjoy The Sweetest One

Yesterday was my first visit to Magnum Cafe. Magnum is a popular ice cream in Indonesia now on. Magnum is produced by Wall’s. There are 4 flavours, those are Classic Magnum (Vanilla ice cream ), Truffle Magnum ( Chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce ), Almond Magnum ( Vanilla ice cream with almond spreading ), and the newest one is Cappuccino. All of those ice cream are covered with a high quality of Belgian chocolate.

And Magnum made Magnum Cafe in Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia. They create many menus with the main ingredient Magnum ice cream. And you know the queue? You have to prepare many patience of you. The queue is tremendously long.

And I don’t want to wait for a long time, so I decided to take away. They limit the take away menu. For take away, you just can order magnum with your own toppings.

I choose Vanilla magnum which was covered with Belgian Milk Chocolate and vanilla cookies and choco crunch topping. The taste? Don’t ask please. It’s absolutely sweet!

The Belgian chocolate just make Magnum become so sweet. It has a great taste. Actually, I’m not a fan of sweet thing. But I think you have to taste Magnum in Magnum Cafe before it will be closed in the end of May 2011.

Hurry up!

Unique Korean Seaweed Soup Recipe!

When I ordered some Korean dishes, like Bulgogi rice or Bibimbab, it always served along with Seaweed Soup. It’s a clear soup with simple spices and seaweed.

My native Korean language teachers told me that if you celebrate your birthday in Korea, so you have to make Seaweed Soup. It’s for a sign may you have a long age.
Actually, how to make this Korean Seaweed Soup ? I got the traditional recipe of Korean seaweed soup. Check this out :

Ingredients:
1 package of dried seaweed (1 ounce is fine for four servings), available in all Korean food markets – ask for the kind used to make seaweed soup, or mi-yuk gook (you don’t want the thin kind used to make sushi rolls.)
6 cups of vegetable broth or organic chicken broth
2 teaspoons of sesame oil
Naturally brewed soy sauce or sea salt, to taste
1 teaspoon of minced garlic (optional)

Directions:

Soak seaweed in water for two hours or until soft. Drain and rinse really well, as dried seaweed can come with a lot of dirt, just like spinach does.
Put all ingredients, including seaweed, into a large pot and bring to a boil, then simmer for five minutes to allow all the flavours to come together.
Koreans traditionally enjoy this seaweed soup with a bowl of white or brown rice, sometimes together in the same bowl.

Hope you like it, Frosters!

Eat Korean Cuisine at University of Indonesia

It’s something that make me surprise when I visited my faculty at University of Indonesia for the first time. Yeah, there’s Korean restaurant!

They just name their restaurant as RESTORAN KOREA. That’s it. They have a lot of menus that is offered. They have kimbab, twaegim kimbab, bulgogi rice, bibimbab, sundubu, jeon, kimchi, teokpokki, rapokki, teokkochi, etc.

One day, me and my sister visited this restaurant. We ordered Twaegim Kimbab ( Fried Kimbab ) and Jeon ( like a pancake, but salty ). We didn’t have a long time to wait for our order. While we waited for the food, we were enjoy by some Korean celebrity posters which are sticked on the wall and Korean popular.
Voila, our Twaegim Kimbab and Jeon were served!

The left is Jeon and the right is Twaegim Kimbab. One portion of Jeon was cut into 8 pieces and one portion of tawegim kimbab consisted of 14 – 15 pieces. They served with soyu ( salt soy sauce )
The jeon is special. Because it contains of chili, beef, squid, and vegetables. I really love this one. It’s not too thick and it’s not the thin. One portion can make my tummy full!
Twaegim Kimbab is the unique one. Actually it’s just a regular kimbab, but they coated it with egg and fried it. So the kimbab was served hot and delightful.

I have visited this place with my friends too. My friends ordered Shin Ramyeon, tteokpokki, sundubu, and bulgogi rice.

This Shin Ramyeon is just an ordinary one. Served with vegetables and egg. Not so special. But if you are noodle lover, you can taste it.

Then, tteokpokki. This tteokpokki is served with veggies and boiled egg. Honestly, I don’t really like gochujang taste. So tteokpokki is not my favorite :(
=
This food is sundubu. One day, I read a book that explain about Korean food. I found Sundubu. It explained me that Sundubu is a spicy seafood soup. But in this place, there’s just Tofu, veggies, and Kimchi with a hot soup. Hmmm so where’s the seafood ??

This is Bulgogi Rice. It’s served with Kimchi and Nori Soup. I love the taste of the bulgogi, but just the number of the meat are not so many. So the onion dominated it. Bulgogi is saute too with veggies and sliced chili. Great taste!
From those lovely menus, one thing is unfortunate. The price is not so reasonable with student’s pocket. The price range is from IDR 22.000 – 35.00 per food. So students can’t enjoy Korean foods oftenly.
But still you should try if you want to compare it with another Korean restaurant. Maybe it can put to your list to visit.

Mr. Park Restaurant, Grand Indonesia, Jakarta : The Most Recommended Family Korean Restaurant

Right now, I am living in Jakarta. Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia. Jakarta has a lot of culinary spot. In the street stall, restaurant, even in the malls.
In one mall named Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, you can find many restaurants inside and food court. I chose to go to the food court with my family. After seeing around to some stalls there, we decided to choose Mr. Park, a Family Korean Restaurant.

Because we are consisting of 3 people, so we ordered Family Set A.

Family SET A consists of Chicken CutletsWhite Fried RiceSaladSeafood and Vegetables Saute , Bulgogi, dan Black Pepper Udon.
All of the foods here are served warm ( except the salad ), so it will enrich the original taste of the food. It has a big big portion. You must try the chicken cutlets with the real black pepper. So does the bulgogi and Blackpepper Udon. OK, That was HOT!
For the veggies, try the salad and seafood with veggie saute. The salad is consisting of shredded cabbage, sliced carrots, and mayonnaise. The mayonnaise is a little bit sweet, but it’s not my favorite. The seafood and veggie saute is so-so. It’s a little bit tasteless. I can’t taste the salt and another spice on it. But the seafood is fresh! I love the prawn. It’s sweet! Yumm :D
Black pepper Udon is one of my favorite too. The noodles is thick but smooth and chewy. The spice is adorable!
Bulgogi is great too! The meat is soft and easy to eat.
Last but not least, THE WHITE FRIED RICE. This Fried Rice didn’t use sweet soy sauce, but salt soy sauce with pepper, salt, onion, etc. Although it’s a simple one, the taste is good. The Fried rice was mixed by frozen vegetables.
That’s from my first visit to Mr. Park. Then I invited my sister and cousin to go there. Now we re-ordered Family Set A. Still the same, Family Set A is still satisfying us. Actually I want to order Bulgogi Bibimbab too. This bulgogi bibimbab consisted of riceveggiessliced meats which were placed in a hot stone, sliced omelet soup, and kimchi. I asked the chef to separate gochujang souce ( chili paste ) from the rice, because if we add too manygochujang , the taste is weird. So I decided to give the gochujang based on my taste.
The omelet soup was consist of sliced omelet with hot fish broth and green onion. It’s so tasty and hot. The sliced omelet is not too many, but it is enough. Because you will feel full already with the vegetables, rice, and also the meat!
Then, kimchi. Actually I’m not a big fan of kimchi. So I didn’t eat it full. I just eat it a little and taste too much garlic in the kimchi.
And how to eat it ? Okay I will guide you!
So first, put gochujang ( chili paste ) on the top of the rice and vegetables based on your taste. Then mix them up until all of the side get the spice. Because bibimbab uses a hot stone, so don’t forget to blow it because it’s still so hot. While you eat the rice, don’t forget to drink the soup. If you like kimchi, you can mix the bibimbap up along with the kimchi. Simple right ?
But overall, bulgogi bibimbab and hot omelet soup are the best one :) Yummy!

You will never disappointed to visit Mr. Park, because you can taste a great Korean food with a reasonable price. Catch them up now :)
